AI Literacy vs Fluency?
AI fluency is not the same as AI literacy,
yet literacy is a prerequisite to fluency.
AI LITERACY
-
Knowing what AI is & isn't
-
Understanding AI's capabilities & limitations within your tools of choice and more broadly
-
Foundations of AI use, e.g. tool usage and prompting skills
AI FLUENCY
-
Decisions about what work to delegate to AI
-
Building environments where AI performs consistently
-
How to evaluate whether automation or augmentation is best suited to a task
How is AI Literacy Evaluated?
The HUMANATIA AI Literacy Assessment is a test of your understanding about AI capabilities, limitations, and foundations of how AI works.
Its short-form assessment allows you to quickly identify what key concepts are missing from your own mental model of AI works, which directly affects how you operate and use AI day-to-day.
How is AI Fluency Measured?
The HUMANATIA AI Fluency Assessment is an introspective assessment. It is a reflection of your actual AI use, and should be answered honestly in order to obtain valuable insights.
Scores are attributed across 5 dimensions developed from AI Coaching experience and inspired by existing research on AI fluency from Anthropic and estabilshed research institutions including Stanford University. It's built to measure what actually separates strong AI practitioners from superficial ones.
5 Dimensions of AI Fluency
AI CAPABILITY & TOOL UNDERSTANDING (AI LITERACY)
How AI systems actually work — what drives model behaviour, why errors happen, and what that means for how you use them.
DELEGATION INTELLIGENCE
The judgment to know what to hand to AI, what to keep human, and why. The hardest dimension to develop and the one that matters most.
COMMUNICATION & CONTEXT
How you build the conditions for effective AI collaboration — before sessions, during them, and across them over time.
DISCERNMENT & REFLECTION
Evaluating AI output critically before acting on it, and monitoring whether your AI practice is building your capabilities or quietly replacing them.
STRATEGIC JUDGMENT
Making principled decisions about when and how to use AI — at the task, workflow, and career level — in ways that hold up as tools change.
Bridging Dimensions
These dimensions describe the human substrate that makes the other five work. The are baked within the five dimensions in your final score.
COGNITIVE CLARITY & SME
The human knowledge and clear thinking that makes AI collaboration valuable — the irreplaceable substrate that AI augments rather than replaces.
MULTI-SCALE VISION
The ability to deliberately adjust your "optical zoom," moving fluidly between the broad landscape of high-level strategy and the microscopic details of granular execution.
Where do I start?
As with most things, you should start with the foundations. Evaluate whether you are literate enough to develop fluency.
Literacy is learned, fluency is practiced and acquired over time.
Take the AI Literacy Assessment to understand your baseline.
Depending on your score you'll be directed to the appropriate resources to help you with your learning trajectory.
